In 1971-1975, he graduated from the A. Zeynalli Baku Secondary Specialized Music School with honors in piano. In 1975-1980, he studied at the U. Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory, graduating with honors in composition (prof. J. Hajibeyov’s class) and music theory. In 1975-1999, he worked as a concertmaster and taught theory at the A. Zeynalli Baku Music Technical School. Since 1992, he has been a member of the Azerbaijan Composers’ Union. In 1992-2016, he worked as a senior teacher, associate professor and professor at the U. Hajibeyli Baku Music Academy.
He was awarded the titles of Doctor of Philosophy in Art History (1997), Associate Professor (2006), Honored Teacher (2011), and Professor (2012) by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In 2016-2024, he worked as the director of the Baku City Eleven-Year Art School No. 6 named after F. Amirov. Since 2024, he has been working as the head of the department of “Instrumental Performance” at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art.
A. Yusifova has composed large-scale and small-scale works for instrumental, choir, symphony orchestra: “Azerbaijan Flag” Cantata for symphony orchestra, choir, children’s choir and singer (lyrics by R. Mirzayev) (2019-2021), “National Patterns” 10 concert pieces for piano (1993), first performed in Israel, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Haifa city (1994), “Flame” and “Meh datu” fantasy for tar and piano, “Parallels” for piano trio and balaban (2007), “City in my Dreams” fantasy for string quartet, oboe, balaban, soprano and piano (lyrics by R. Mirzayev) 2016. In 2003, an SD and DVD album of her works was released. In 2017, an author’s concert and a conference-meeting dedicated to her work were organized in Tbilisi at the invitation of the Georgian Composers’ Union. In 2020, an author’s concert and meeting, as well as a master class, were held at the invitation of the Afyon Kocatepe University State Conservatory in Turkey. She was also the musical and artistic director of projects and performances for children. A. Yusifova is also the author of a number of books, musical works and textbooks: J. Hajiyev – monograph in 2012; the book “F. Amirov’s 6th Tenth Art School” dedicated to F. Amirov in 2012; an art catalog titled “Shusha – the Cultural Capital of the Turkic Peoples” in 2023, etc.
