Zaur Sultanov was born in Baku in 1989. In 2007/2011, he earned his bachelor's degree in history and society from Baku Asia University. In 2011/2013, at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, he successfully defended his master's thesis on "Heydar Aliyev's oil strategy" and earned a master's degree. He is the author of several articles published in the local press. Since 2014, he has worked on his doctoral studies (Doctor of Philosophy) in the field of archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, Ethnography and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He is working on a dissertation called "Archaeological Monuments of the Kurmuk River Basin (III-XIV Centuries)".
In the academic year of 2014/2015, he started working as a history teacher in the Gobustan region. In 2015/2017, he worked as a tutor at the Baku Slavic University, faculties of International Relations and Regional Studies, Philology and Journalism and Translation. He was a member of the staff at the summer school at the university and conducted lectures and seminars on the history of Azerbaijan. In 2016, he participated in the tutoring course organized at Baku Slavic University and received a certificate.
In 2017/2022, he worked as a leading specialist at the Registration Division of the Education Organization and Quality Assurance Department of ADUCA. Since the academic year of 2021/2022, he has worked as a teacher at the Social and Political Sciences Department of ASUCA.
In 2021/2022 l, he participated in the Digital Architecture and 3D educational program organized by Code Academy and the "Professional Career Counselor" training by the State Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population and was awarded a certificate.
Since September 2022, he has worked at the position of deputy dean at the faculty of Culturology.
