Azerbaijani State University of Culture and Arts

The university traces its origins to 1923, when the Baku Theater School was established by decree of the Azerbaijan Commissariat of Education. At that time, the Baku Theater School named after M.F. Akhundov trained actors and directors not only for Azerbaijan but also for Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Dagestan, Crimea, and other regions.

In 1945, the Theater Institute was established based on the Theater School, and since 1968, the institution has been known as the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts.

In 1991, the Institute of Arts was granted university status.

Currently operating as the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, the institution consists of five faculties and twenty-one departments, providing specialized training through 21 undergraduate and 20 graduate (master’s) programs.
