From Language to Art: ASUCA’s Foundation Program for International Students

Situated in the heart of Baku, the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ASUCA) has been a leading center for cultural and artistic education since 1923. With a long-standing tradition of nurturing creative talent, ASUCA continues to offer a welcoming environment for students from around the world.

As part of its academic offerings, ASUCA invites international students to join its Foundation Course — a preparatory program designed to support entry into undergraduate studies in the arts.

Foundation Course Overview:

Language of instruction: Azerbaijani or Russian

  • Foreign students are not required to pass an entrance examination. Instead, a special commission will review the documents submitted online and conduct an interview as part of the admission process.
  • Duration options: 1 academic year (9 months) or 6 months (intensive program)
  • Includes a specialization module in the student’s chosen artistic field: Theatre, Music, Drawing, Design, Dance, and more.
  • Tailored to prepare international students for undergraduate studies at ASUCA and beyond

Admission Period:

  • 1 June – 31 August for the 1-year program
  • 1-31 January for the intensive 6-month program

Required Documents for Online Registration:

  • High school diploma and transcript (12-year program) or Bachelor’s diploma and transcript
  • Apostille and equivalency certification (if the diploma/certificate was issued outside Azerbaijan)
  • Notarized Azerbaijani translation of the diploma/certificate (if the original is in a foreign language)
  • Valid international passport
  • Six (6) passport-size photos (3×4 cm)
  • Medical certificate confirming absence of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C
  • Copies of any additional certificates, diplomas, or relevant documents (if available)

Tuition Fee: $900 (same for 1-year and 6-month programs)

Please note:

If, after completing the Foundation Course, you decide to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at ASUCA, you will need to complete the recognition (nostrification) process for your previous qualifications — including your High School Diploma, Bachelor’s Diploma, or Master’s Diploma (as applicable).

You must provide ASUCA with the official letter of registration confirming the completion of this nostrification process as part of your application for Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD studies.

Issuance of a temporary residence permit to foreigners and stateless persons in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Foreigners and stateless persons who wish to temporarily reside in the Republic of Azerbaijan must obtain the appropriate permit from the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Applications for a temporary residence permit are processed in accordance with the amount of state duty stipulated by the Republic of Azerbaijan Law “On State Fees” within the timeframe specified in that law.
Once the permit for temporary residence is issued, the State Migration Service provides the applicant with a temporary residence permit card. This card serves as official documentation allowing foreigners and stateless persons to reside in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the duration specified in the permit.

Important: Applicants must visit ASAN Xidmet, where they will be given a form to fill in. Below are some ASAN Xidmet locations:

  • ASAN Xidmet 1: M. Huseynov Street 84, Yasamal District, Baku
  • ASAN Xidmet 2: Babak Street 2, Nasimi District, Baku
  • ASAN Xidmet 3: S. Vurgun Street 33, Narimanov District, Baku
