Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Arts, Professor
Jeyran Emin Mahmudova was born on July 19, 1964, in Baku, Azerbaijan. From 1971 to 1982, she studied at the Bulbul Secondary Specialized Music School. In 1982, she enrolled in the History and Theory Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli, graduating with honors in 1987.
From 1987 to 1990, she pursued full-time postgraduate studies at the Institute of Architecture and Arts of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Between 1990 and 1996, she worked at the same institute as a Junior Research Fellow, Research Fellow, and Senior Research Fellow. From 1991 to 2017, she held academic positions at the Baku Academy of Music named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli, advancing from Lecturer to Professor.
In 1994, she defended her Candidate of Sciences dissertation entitled “Problems of Azerbaijani Tasnifs”. In 2012, she successfully defended her Doctor of Sciences dissertation on “The Interrelation of Poetry and Music in the Songs of Azerbaijani Composers.” She was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in 2003 and Professor in 2017.
Since 2010, Professor Mahmudova has been a member of the Expert Council on Arts and Architecture of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan. She is also a member of the Board of the Azerbaijan Composers’ Union.
Professor Mahmudova is the author of three monographs, two university textbooks, two methodological guides for secondary school teachers, more than fifty scholarly publications, over forty academic and publicistic articles, and several academic curricula. She has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences and symposia.
From 2010 to 2014, she was the scriptwriter and presenter of the television program “Musical Treasury”, broadcast on Azerbaijan Television and the Mədəniyyət (Culture) TV Channel.
In 2017, she was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Musical Arts at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
On July 30, 2018, by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, she was appointed Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
On December 13, 2023, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, she was awarded the honorary title of Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
