PhD in Art Studies, Associate Professor
Sevil Alifattah Karimova was born on December 27, 1975, in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 2000, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Art Studies from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. In 2002, she completed her Master’s degree in the same field at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts.
In 2016, she successfully defended her PhD dissertation entitled “Cultural Relations between Azerbaijan and Italy” and was awarded the academic degree of PhD in Art Studies. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Sciences degree, conducting research on “Leader Iconography in Turkish Art.”
From 2002 to 2008, she worked as a Leading Specialist at the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan. During this period, she also began her academic and teaching career. Between 2002 and 2004, she taught at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts; from 2008 to 2017, she served as a faculty member at the Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University; and since 2016, she has been teaching at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
From 2017 to 2021, Associate Professor Karimova served as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Between 2021 and 2022, she worked as Adviser to the Rector of the University. From 2023 to 2024, she held the position of Head of the Department of Arts and Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Associate Professor Karimova is the author of six textbooks, three monographs, and more than eighty scholarly articles. She has also initiated and led numerous artistic, cultural, and socially oriented projects implemented both in Azerbaijan and internationally.
In February 2025, she was appointed Vice-Rector for International Relations of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
