Valida Mammadova

Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor

Valida Imran Mammadova was born in 1950 in Baku, Azerbaijan, into an intellectual family.

Education

In 1967, she graduated from Secondary School No. 172 in Baku. In 1972, she completed her studies at the Faculty of Azerbaijani Language and Literature of the V.I. Lenin Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute (now Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University).

In 1973, she undertook advanced professional training at the Faculty of Psychology of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

From 1981 to 1984, she pursued postgraduate studies at the Nizami Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Professional Career

From 1974 to 1976, Professor Mammadova worked as a lecturer in Professional Ethics and Psychology at the Higher Advanced Training Courses for National Economy Personnel.

Since 1975, her academic and pedagogical career has been closely associated with the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ASUCA).

Between 1991 and 1994, alongside her teaching duties, she served as Secretary of the University Academic Council.

From 2001 to 2010, she was Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts.

From 2010 to 2015, she served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts.

From 2015 to 2021, she held the position of Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.

Since 2021, she has served as Adviser to the Rector on Educational Innovation at ASUCA.

She was awarded the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences in 1988, the academic title of Associate Professor in 1990, and the academic title of Professor in 2010.

In 2008, by a decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, she was awarded the honorary title of Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Public and Professional Activities

From 1994 to 2015, Professor Mammadova served as an expert and seminar coordinator in Azerbaijani Language and Literature for the State Student Admission Commission.

Since 2005, she has been a member of the Textbook Evaluation Council of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Since 2008, she has been a member of the Coordination Council for Arts and Architecture of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Since 2015, she has been a member of the working group responsible for developing State Educational Standards and academic programmes for higher education under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

She also serves as Chair of the Working Group on Culture and Arts Specializations and, since 2015, has been an expert of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Professor Mammadova is the author of a monograph and the university textbooks Modern Russian Literature and Russian Émigré Literature. She is also a co-author of both volumes of the textbook History and Theory of Culture.

She is married and has one child.
